Nurturing children's mind from 6 weeks to 6 years old
Maria Montessori was Italy's first female physician but, rather than focusing on her medical career, she was drawn to child development and education. In 1907, she opened the Casa dei Bambini (Children's House) in Rome, which became the first Montessori School.
The children of the first class flourished under the new teaching method. They developed excellent coordination, focus, determination, self-confidence, and discipline.
The children chose their materials and were soon using items that corresponded precisely to what they most needed at that moment to learn. As the children learned to interact with students outside of their age group, no matter if it was in a group or individually, they developed mutual respect and learned the essentials of community-building and support.
Maria Montessori viewed education as preparation for whole life. At Lakewood Montessori, we continue that fine tradition by helping children become eager, confident, capable, and respectful. Each child will receive personalized guidance to suit its needs and begin its academic career on a positive path.
