Nurturing children's mind from 6 weeks to 6 years old
At Lakewood Montessori, we strive to keep our children’s minds unfettered so they learn without any negative input. The Montessori Method is success oriented. Almost everything is self-teaching and self-correcting, allowing your children to learn by doing and experimenting.
Everything in your child's environment is safe to use and accessible. We encourage children to embrace a life-long learning mindset while enforcing the pleasure of encountering and mastering new skills and ideas. In this way, the child reinforces their joy of learning rather than burying it under simple memorization or mass production. They are free to explore their own path and find purpose in life.
Believing you cannot be free unless you are independent, Dr. Montessori gave the world a scientifically practiced and tested method that is practical for bringing forth the very best in children. Rather than teaching a specific body of knowledge, she taught adults to respect individual differences. Thus, she nourished the whole personality rather than just one portion of who they were.
The Montessori Method focuses on individuals passing from one stage of independence to a higher level through their own activity, effort, and will. That's the reason we call our teachers as directors. They don't just teach, but provide an appropriate environment to assist your child's learning process. We encourage self-reliance by letting them do things for themselves in order to build up responsibility and critical thinking to solve problems.
At Lakewood Montessori, your child's learning environment will be very ordered but they will also have a large degree of freedom to choose their own activities. These conditions will help develop many qualities in children such as self-discipline, concentrated attention, interest, and desire for order.
The needs of a child are the starting point. Children are all different and will learn in different ways. It is our staff’s responsibility to observe children closely and ensure that the activities offered are relevant to the child's needs and skill level. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate, and fulfill their natural curiosity about the world around them. Under the guidance of our teachers, children will develop at their own pace, and learn that learning can be a fun and exciting adventure!
